A Collection of Books on Colonial America

NEW - Download audio files of all songs!

Featuring 70 traditional songs dating from the 17th-19th centuries. Several with additional sets of lyrics to offer a total of over 90 songs -- 30% more than in the previous edition. Each includes a brief introduction with the song's origins and historical anecdotes on the culture and the times during which it was popular. Most of the songs are from 17th- and 18th-century England, however, as explained in the text, they were brought to America by the early colonists and many were soon adapted as patriotic songs. In most cases, both the original lyrics and the patriotic adaptations are included in the book.

Most of the easy-to-play songs are arranged for medium voice. Guitar chords and a series of appendices on various period-appropriate instruments and playing styles are also included, as well as a complete bibliography. Most of the songs were selected with the novice musician in mind and feature simple melodies and easy chord changes.

The flexible coil binding allows the book to lay flat. This is a truly usable collection of delightful songs that is sure to appeal to a broad audience!

LISTEN TO OR DOWNLOAD MP3 files of every tune in the book. The CD songs perfectly match the notation in the book, so you can play along!
